Screen Saver Pack 1

These are the screen savers developed for screen saver pack 1. Most have screen shots, and I have ratings listed with them. Ratings are based on the average screen saver on the pack.

Complete.

Matrix

This is the green letters and numbers running down the screen from the movie The Matrix. This screen saver has many options, including whether or not to use double-symbols (two characters drawn on top of each other to create unique symbols).

Lines

This is just lines bounce around the screen. While still not great, this looks better in motion than a screen shot would show.

Rating: 6/10

Space Invaders

The classic game Space Invaders has been re-made as a screen saver. It includes some extras that can be seen only if the player wins/looses a lot.

Circles

Circles is boring. Circles bounce around the screen but they don't look as good as in Lines.

Floppy Version: Normal circles bouncing around.
Rating: 2/10

CD Version: Ellipses that stretch as they move.
Rating: 4/10

Spy Hunter

Spy Hunter is a classic game where you are a spy in a car and you have to shoot all the other 'spy cars'. It was basically the original Grand Theft Auto, only it was made when they couldn't make the main character a 'bad guy'. It doesn't look that great, but there are scarce extras.

Rating: 7/10

Pac-Man

If you don't know what Pac-Man is, go back to sleep. The pill-munching yellow circle avoids ghosts in the maze. It is done fairly well, although the AI is bad.

Floppy Version: Ok but with some problems. The pills aren't centered right and Pac-Man is limited in his movement. Also, he is to stupid to avoid enemies.
Rating: 7/10

CD Version: Pac-Man can move in more ways and is more likely to avoid enemies. Because he gets a lot further in the game before dying (and can actually win) this version is much better.
Rating: 9/10

Centipede

This was also an old game. You have to shoot the centipede before it gets to the bottom of the screen. It looks ok, but the centipede looks weird when turning.

Rating: 6/10

Asteroids

The player has to shoot all of the asteroids without crashing in to them.

Floppy Version: Ok but with many problems. The ship looks stupid because it can only fly in 8 directions and is too stupid to win.
Rating: 5 out of 10

CD Version: Improved movement and navigation; the ship still looks like it moves 8 ways but can actually move at any angle. It avoids asteroids and aims. Because the player tends to win more, this version is much better to watch.
Rating: 10/10

Pong

The oldest game ever. Literally. It is a two player game (but in this case a screen saver) where each player moves their paddle to keep the ball in.

Rating: 6/10

Rampage

This is the best old-school game now as a screen saver. The players are 50 foot monsters smashing some random city. The monsters move around stupidly in this version, and only one monster can climb, but it is still cool.

Rating: 8/10
